AN INNOVATIVE CONSIDERATION FOR USING A POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD) WORKING SERVICE DOG TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF OUR WOUNDED WARRIORS AFFLICTED WITH THIS INVISIBLE WOUND
Texas Animal Hall of Fame Salutes Colonel

Colonel, TADSAW's three-legged German shepherd mix who was almost
euthanized last year, has received a statewide honor for working as a
therapy dog to help wounded and injured veterans.
The Colonel will officially be inducted into the TEXAS ANIMAL HALL OF
FAME on Sunday, December 9th, at the VFW Post in San Antonio, TX, said
Leah Ann Tibbitts, director of the
Texas Veterinary Medical
Foundation, which announced the recognition. Aside from providing
comfort and inspiration, Colonel, a therapy dog with the Train a Dog —
Save a Warrior program, also brings camaraderie to amputees, having lost
his left rear leg, Tibbitts said. [

PTSD symptoms caused by witnessing or participating in a traumatic
event can affect two people, standing side by side, differently. PTSD is
rarely cured; it can be treated. Whether ‘acute,’ ‘chronic,’ or
‘delayed,’ effective treatments can vary from wounded warrior to wounded
warrior.
Physical, behavioral, and/or emotional symptoms can be helped
tremendously by the presence of a well trained
TRAIN A DOG ~ SAVE A WARRIOR SERVICE DOG. Anxiety, panic, fear,
irritability, depression, withdrawal, isolation, hyper-vigilance, loss
of trust, nightmares, reoccurring flashbacks, phobias of crowds, phones,
e-mail, stores, buildings, vehicles, unfamiliar people, insomnia,
fatigue, pounding heart, migraines, difficulty concentrating, paranoia,
sleepwalking, suicidal thoughts, anti social behavior, suspicion, poor
self esteem are but some of the symptoms where a
TADSAW SERVICE DOG has proved useful.
Working as a team with the warrior’s counselors, family support and
medical support team, is step one. Talk therapy, positive motivation,
relaxation training, systematic desensitization, biofeedback, cognitive
behavioral therapy, pharmacotherapy, are but some of the treatments in
the therapeutic ‘toolbox.’ As with anything, some work better on some
warriors than others.
The formation of a TADSAW Stress Assault Team or a team effort is but
one strategy in stress management. Finding those who can validate and
appreciate the warrior such as family, friends, counselor, doctor,
chaplain, spouse, children, parents, or friends from his/her unit may
certainly help.
The Stress Assault Team can often be greatly enhanced by the use of a
highly trained TRAIN A DOG ~ SAVE A WARRIOR
SERVICE DOG. Dogs might be huggable to look at, but they have a
far more important role to play – to help re-integrate military veterans
scarred by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Please help us help our military returning with PTSD.
$2,500.00 donation will sponsor a dog for a wounded warrior with PTSD.

Great to hear from you. The books (Pockets of Peace - K9's Therapy for PTSD, MST & TBI) you sent are quite the conversation piece and many have been taken to other offices. Thank you for the wonderful work you do for our Soldiers."
